Learning how to dehydrate blueberries was easier than I thought! Recently, I’ve taken an interest in how to preserve food with dehydration. Have you every had dried blueberries? They make awesome snacks in mixes, on top of ice cream or just by themselves.

Dehydrating blueberries is really simple. You’ll need to check your specific dehydrator for instructions, but you can also continue to check on them and dry them to the texture you like. Check out this COSORI Food Dehydrator if you don’t currently have a dehydrator.

Are Blueberries Good For Dehydration?


Blueberries are a great fruit to dehydrate and use later in recipes because they are small and fairly uniform in shape, so they dry out fairly evenly.

Do You Have to Blanch Blueberries Before Dehydrating?

Blanching blueberries helps break the skin, which gives a softer dehydrated blueberry that’s better for snacking or topping cereal. You don’t have to blanch them but it’s up to your preference.

Alternatively, you can dehydrate frozen blueberries. Blanching blueberries burst the skin, but when blueberries freeze, it also bursts the skin. You can thaw the blueberries before dehydrating them, but it’s not necessary. See how easy it is to freeze blueberries.

How to Dehydrate Blueberries in Oven

Food dehydrators are great, but not a necessity when dehydrating blueberries. You can also dehydrate in the oven.

First, line a cookie sheet with parchment paper, then place one layer of blueberries on the sheet.

Next, Bake at 135 degrees Fahrenheit for 10 hours. If you want to get through the process during the day, you can increase the degrees to 200 and dehydrate them in about 7 hours. Keep a careful eye on them if you go that route.

How to Use Dehydrated Blueberries and Dried Blueberry Recipes

You can enjoy them as a snack, add to a dry trail mix or as a topping on oatmeal and cereal.  You can also use them as you would fresh blueberries or frozen blueberries in pancakes, blueberry bread, muffins, and other baked goods.

To rehydrate blueberries, soak in hot water for 5 to 10 minutes.  Drain well and use like fresh blueberries.
