Going green, sustainable living, environmentalism, advocating for a cleaning world aren’t just fads, a life phase or trend, it truly has to be a way of life, something to center your world around. That’s what environmentalism has been to me, which is why I decided to start a sustainable living blog. All the environmental issues were starting to consume me. I had to find a way to get it organized and share it with everyone who would listen. You might not be that passionate about it, but here are 5 reasons, you should consider starting a sustainable living blog.

5 Reasons to Start a Sustainable Living Blog- No Experience Required!

1. To live a more intentional life


You don’t have to be perfect because even in the fall of the wagon moments, you can learn something about yourself, your situation and what to do differently next time. Blogging encourages intentional thinking. You’re constantly trying to come up with great ideas for your readers, which helps you learn right along with them. This was definitely a factor when I started blogging and you can learn more about that here. But honestly, if you have no experience living a sustainable lifestyle, but you want to learn more, blogging is a great way to start. You can track your progress and give a beginner’s view on starting a new lifestyle in a world where there is tons of misleading information and confusing ideas. If you have no experience might the BEST reasons to start a sustainable living blog.

2. To inspire others

The world needs to be inspired. We are all so inward focused, busy and easily distracted. We need more people outwardly focused to remind us there are other things out there. The thing is, you have connections and audience that even the most popular environmental blogs can’t reach, unless you share them.  You have friends and family, who might not show the slightest environmental interest, but by showing a good example, you can reach those who might not respond to anyone else. Everyone has a different spin and expertise to share, so yours is definitely needed.

3. To meet new people and learn new things

This is one of the best things about blogging. I ‘m not very outgoing online or in real life and here in Oklahoma, there isn’t a lot of people who will give two cents to environmental issues, so I felt pretty alienated at times. But finding others online, who are passionate, learning from them and applying what I’ve learned to my own situation has been a real joy during my blog experience. Even if it’s not a sustainable living blog, if you are passionate about something and want to have more connections in that area, then blogging is definitely the way to go.

4. To Educate Others

Many people out there might want to live a more sustainable lifestyle, but they just don’t have the knowledge, resources or motivation to do it. There are so many wonderful tips I’ve learned along the way and it brings me so much satisfaction to be able to pass that information along and maybe help someone else with it. Many of these green living tips, not only help our Earth, but they can save money, too. It’s a win-win and the more people that know that the better.

5. Diversity

For every kind of blog out there, there is one with an environmental focus. For instance, why limit yourself to just fashion, when you could help others have cleaner and healthier work environments or work to help get fashion industry workers a reasonable wage. If you watch suddenly stopped working, you might probably need the help of a Seiko solar repair expert to determine the problem. Why be just a food blogger, when you could go search for a more sustainable food source and feed your family healthier food? There are plenty of ways to blog about what you love, while also educating others and helping make the world a better place.

6. Whatever Your Reason is For Starting a Sustainable Living Blog

I could give you a million reasons on why I think the world needs to be filled with inspiration for green living, but it’s up to you to create a reason that will encourage you to stick with it.

I started Skip The Bag to try and inspire others to forgo single use plastic bags, however I found that it’s really encouraging me to more closely examine all my purchases and try to minimize the impact I’m having on the environement. I don’t think I’d have come nearly as far without the blog!
